Psychology

Once Psychology was almost thought of as the ‘little brother’ of all the major sciences, and it often seems that it still is. Psychology is one of the most important of all the scientific disciplines, because it is the study of what we are, it is the study of the mind and our behavior.

In essence psychology dates back to the ancient philosophies of the Greek(especially De Anima by Aristotle), the Egyptian, the Chinese, Indian and Persian civilizations, because their perceptions and scientific ideologies were the structural building blocks on which the psychological discipline is based.

Many see Sigmund Freud as the Father of Modern Psychology, while Freud was a major influence in a number of areas of psychology, he was far from the ‘all-knowing’, guiding force of the discipline that people tend to think. There were far more influential psychologists, like Carl Jung, B.F. Skinner and William James(thought of as the REAL father of psychology).

Psychology in all it’s multitude of disciplines and subdisciplines is a fascinating subject worthy of the respect of all members of society, both scientist and layperson alike. Some believe that all we are are brains attached to a mobile support system, that the self is entirely in the mind, that the soul and everything that we are is contained in that three pounds of grey matter inside our heads. If so, that makes psychology one of the most important disciplines in all of science.
